The Drifter Divines are two deities related to The Court but pointedly not a part of it. Together, they represent many things. While the church has given them names, every planet has its own name for each. Primarily, they encompass balance, duality, and death. They are chaos and order, light and dark, sun and moon. The Sun is called the Axocarrion, and the Moon, the Eidocarrion. In addition, they represent death twofold: the difference between both how death takes a person, and how they react to it.
The Axocarrion, the side that encompasses the sun and light and warmth, represents clashing with death; to duel, to deny, to dance - a cruel chase or a blaze of glory, a death drawn out. The Eidocarrion, the moon and dark and cold, represents a quiet death; painlessly, softly, without resistance - the instant kind that takes you before you know it, or one softened by acceptance.
Together, it is said they sometimes visit those on the brink of death - whether or not they yet know it - and offer the cadaver-to-be a choice. Will you fight against your fate, or will you kneel and accept it? For most, the answer is obvious: fight for your life, claw at the chance to live. But death is inevitable, it comes for all things, even the Gods - death claims, always. All fall before the might of the Sun, into the shade of the Moon.
